Our duty to act

It is responsibility of the DSLs to ensure that all concerns are recorded accurately and referred to the appropriate agency quickly to ensure that necessary actions are taken to promote children’s welfare. It is also their responsibility to ensure that all staff and volunteers are trained to an appropriate level and are confident in sharing concerns they have with the Lead Designated Person.  This training takes place each year.

Each term the Lead Designated Persons meet with the Safeguarding Governor to ensure that they are kept up to date with the developments in Safeguarding.  At no point during these meetings are individual cases discussed.

Working proactively to prevent child-on-child abuse in our school

June 2021, Ofsted published a rapid review of sexual abuse in schools and colleges. It recommends that schools, colleges and multi-agency partners act as though sexual harassment and online sexual abuse are happening, even when there are no specific reports. This is because the review has revealed how prevalent sexual harassment and online sexual abuse are for children and young people. In light of this, even where school and college leaders do not have specific information that indicates sexual harassment and online sexual abuse are problems for their children and young people, they should act on the assumption that they are. Leaders should take a whole-school/college approach to developing a culture where all kinds of sexual harassment and online sexual abuse are recognised and addressed.

How do we do it in our school?
